On the second day of the conference, a training session was held on the application of supercomputers in industry and examples of best practices. The training was organized as part of the second phase of the EuroCC2 project – National Competence Centres in the framework of EuroHPC, funded by the European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU). The project continues to promote the use of supercomputers at the national level, by identifying relevant users and aligning their needs with the available resources within the national competence centres for high performance computing (HPC). It supports the development of innovative solutions by targeted participants in both the private and public sectors, by providing assistance to interested end-users in the use of HPC/HPDA/AI.
Representing the National Competence Centre for High Performance Computing in Montenegro, the University of Donja Gorica (UDG) and the University of Montenegro (UCG) are participants in the EuroCC2 project.
In this context, the participants had the opportunity to hear from Panayiota Katsamba, a representative of NCC Cyprus, who shared best practice examples related to empowering industry and applying HPC in industrial contexts.
Tina Črnigoj Marc, representing the National Competence Centre of Slovenia, and Sašo Knez from Shark Aero, presented a best practice example involving the application of an open-source software package in the aerospace industry.
Representing NCC Montenegro, Doc. Dr. Luka Filipović presented best practice examples implemented by NCC Montenegro – activities based on the use of high performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence (AI) for applications in industrial domains defined by the Smart Specialisation Strategy (2019–2024) for Montenegro.
Participants were introduced to the development of a SaaS solution, based on machine learning and data collection, that will enable financial institutions and other companies to significantly improve personalized banking and payment services for their clients. This innovative solution is jointly implemented by the company Fleka and the Faculty of Information Systems and Technologies, UDG, and was presented by Marko Leković from Fleka.
In addition, the audience heard from Ivan Šoć (FiveG) and Ivan Bošković, representing the company Čikom.
In the second part of the training, participants had the opportunity to hear about strategies and best practice examples as drivers of innovative solutions implemented by the National Competence Centres in Turkey, Romania, the Netherlands, and North Macedonia.
The aim of the training was to present best practices in the application of high performance computing and the use of available resources within national competence centres in industry, as well as to foster networking among national competence centres within the EuroCC2 framework.
Approximately 140 participants (both in-person and online) from the research, academic, and business communities attended the training.
